Getting warm twice

11/11/2012

According to Sam Arbogast cutting wood is getting warm twice, when you cut it and when you burn it. Yesterday was wood-cutting day on the farm. It was a family affair (except for Sarah who was at a High Rocks board meeting).

Once all the livestock are back home from the summer pastures and all the crops are in it is time to start getting the wood. After the snowy halloween I was beginning to think we would be wading snow the rest of the fall and winter collecting wood. Yesterday turned out to be sunny and t-shirt weather. Notice that Silas is in shorts. He is a cold-weather creature.

The trees we were cutting up were on Dad's farm and fell during the derecho. Thank goodness for a tractor and a mounted wood splitter which allowed us to get 5 truck loads from 11:00 till dark.
